About Deb / Artist Statement

Deborah Chan is a mixed media artist from Singapore. She is known for creating artworks that reflect dreams, hopes and aspirations in life. Her works are contemporary, modern and innovative; sometimes paintings, other times drawings, often mixed media abstract art and portraits commissions.

She paints, draws and experiment the surface of her canvasses / papers using different mediums. Her more recent works unite different media with oils, acrylics, watercolours and inks with materials such as thread, fabric and glitter powder. The original artwork is unique and touches upon a wide range of themes such as human connection, identity, spirituality and dreams or purposes in life.

“Art has a voice, a visual has a message.” Her goal as an artist is to create works that speak both to her and others about the beauty of life on earth. Deborah believes with all her heart that Life itself is the highest form of arts. Inspiring and challenging people to rediscover their lost dreams and purposes in life, is her greatest motivation in creating more artworks.

Many of her works have brought encouragement and healing to the individual soul.

Since the age of five, she has not stopped dreaming about being an artist. Pursuing her dreams constantly with experimenting her works in different mediums: painting, drawing and designing.

She won a local newspaper drawing contest when she was ten and received the First Prize Arts Award during her third year in High School. In 2014, she exhibited her works in Italy, Venice and the following year in Milan. She had her first solo show in Singapore, 2017 at The Arts House.

A graduate in Communication Design from LaSalle College of The Arts (Singapore), who has worked as a Graphic / Corporate Identity Designer for a decade in the areas of branding, logos, packaging and editorial layout design.

In late 2016, she started her own design and art business — Deborah Chan Studio and has been traveling occasionally for commissioned projects. Deborah currently resides in Singapore.
